Before taking action, it's normal to have questions. This FAQ brings together all the essential information you need to understand green roofing and TOITVERT solutions.

An extensive green roof is a lightweight greening solution suitable for flat roofs and slopes of up to 20 degrees. It uses hardy plants such as sedum or flowering meadows, with low maintenance and a fine substrate.

Pre-cultivated trays provide immediate, uniform and resistant plant cover, whereas direct seeding requires several years (!) to establish, with very uncertain results.

No. Our ranges also include :

  • Swiss Prairie - flower meadow modules adapted to the urban environment
  • Swiss Fragment - plant fragment modules for rapid colonisation
  • Swiss Substrat - local substrates made from crushed tiles and compost

In Europe, there are trays as thin as 4 cm, while in Switzerland the SIA standards recommend (but do not require) a minimum of 8 cm.

Note that the thicker the substrate, the longer the plants will grow, and the better the thermal insulation created.

We offer several modules adapted to the roof's load-bearing capacity.

A biosolar roof combines extensive vegetation with photovoltaic panels. The plants improve the performance of the panels through natural cooling and reduce urban heat islands, while producing solar energy.

Yes, provided the structure can support the combined load (substrate + vegetation + photovoltaic structure).

No, because the panels are fixed to supports at a sufficient distance to allow light to pass through.

What's more, we use species adapted to partial shade.

Maintenance remains the same:

  • 1 to 2 passes per year, including weeding, cutting back wilted inflorescences and general inspection.
  • Water only if there is a prolonged absence of rainfall.

Yes, there is federal and cantonal support (in particular the one-off payment for photovoltaics). Some local authorities also support projects combining vegetation and solar production.
